The Principle: Medical compression hosiery has been widely used for a wide variety of conditions such as the reduction of swelling in the lower extremities and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Compression hosiery works by applying sufficient force onto the venous system in the extremities in order to help facilitate the speedy return of de-oxygenated blood to the vital organs. This, in turn, ensures a healthy circulation and less risk of complications. The most commonly used products fall into either Class 1 (used as a preventative measure) or Class 2 (used for pre-existing conditions) categories.
